Therápia Alcohol Addiction Recovery
Alcohol addiction is particularly challenging for a number of reasons. Alcohol is a legal drug with broad cultural and social acceptance, which makes it especially difficult for addicts to successfully navigate sober life post-rehabilitation. The effects of alcohol abuse can be very dangerous, both mentally and physically. An estimated 2.5 million alcohol-related deaths occur worldwide every year. If you and your family suffer from alcohol dependency, there’s no better time than now to recognize that you have a problem and to find out how you can get help.
Effects of Alcohol Abuse
Chronic alcohol abuse takes a significant physical toll on the body. For the heart and cardiovascular system, it can mean a gradually stretching and drooping of the heart muscle (cardiomyopathy), irregular heart beat (arrhythmia), and high blood pressure. For the liver, alcohol abuse can cause steatosis, or fatty liver; alcoholic hepatitis; fibrosis; and cirrhosis. Alcohol abuse can also cause the pancreas to produce toxic substances, which eventually leads to pancreatitis—a dangerous inflammation and swelling of the blood vessels in the pancreas, eventually preventing digestion. Alcohol abuse is also known to cause stroke and has been linked to various forms of cancer in the mouth, throat, esophagus, liver, and breast. It can even weaken your immune system over time, making your body a much easier target for virtually any disease.
Alcohol abuse also brings with it a wide range of possible negative mental effects. It can cause drastic, sometimes manic changes in the addict’s personality. Mood swings and aggression are especially common among heavy drinkers. Because alcohol decreases the activity of the nervous system, it can also cause severe anxiety, stress, and insomnia. Perhaps the most dangerous effect of alcohol to the abuser is depression, which comes from alcohol’s interference with the brain’s chemical balances. In addition to it’s mental side effects, alcohol abuse negatively effects the body in countless ways. Liver damage, heart arrhythmia, esophagus tears from vomiting, and gastritis are all common physical effects of alcohol abuse. If not treated early enough, many of these effects can be very dangerous, even fatal.
It can be surprisingly difficult for an alcoholic to admit they have a problem, especially to themselves. If you regularly drink alone, miss work or other responsibilities due to drinking, often drink more than you intend to, or consciously hide your drinking habits, chances are you have a drinking problem. Therápia is a residential treatment center focused on addiction recovery. Therápia is here to help.

"First, I wanted to thank you for all you have done for Jeff, our family, and the amazing Band of Brothers. In 20+ years, I don't think I've met a person who could get through to Jeff the way that you have. Yes, you had a captive (no pun intended) audience with him, but, per his own words, 'If it hadn't been Davee...
"I started using drugs and alcohol when I was seventeen. It all started with alcohol and marijuana on the weekends. By age eighteen I had moved on to pain pills, shortly after I was a full blown heroin addict. I knew I needed to stop and could see my life going down the drain. Scholarships to college were lost...
